A Story of Jianbing

In our contemporary society, people encounter different cultures in various situations, as New Zealand has introduced multi-culturalism. It is important to build across cultural communication and understandings for us to get together as human beings as we moving towards the future. New Zealand attracts many Chinese international students, travelers, workers to live here. It is easy to find a certain disconnec- tion with the cultures, people and places from the host culture as well as a home culture when people living overseas.The main barriers of cross-cultural communication are cultural anxiety, assuming similarity, ethnocentrism, ste- reotyping and prejudice. I found food is a good example of breaking the barriers among cul- tures, as it certainly links us with a sensational experience. It carries our nostalgia emotions and evokes our memories of home. No matter where we go, our cultural food often reminds us of who we are and where we from, it can root us.
